Kent B. Scott

Kent B.Scott is a peacekeeper extraordinaire. He embodies the highest standards of professionalism, is a tireless advocate for dispute resolution, and is a steadfast volunteer. Helping others is in Kent’s DNA. 

Kent has tried over 72 cases, mediated in excess of 500 disputes, and arbitrated more than 175 complex cases. Kent is an AV rated trial attorney, the highest rating Martindale Hubbell gives.He is a shareholder and vice president of Babcock Scott & Babcock, a premier construction law firm in Utah.  

Kent was a founding member and past chair of the dispute resolution section of the Utah State Bar and a Utah Council on Conflict Resolution (UCCR) board member. He is a longtime member of the Judicial Council’s Committee on Alternate Dispute Resolution. Kent is active in the dispute resolution and construction sections of the Utah State and American Bar Associations and has served on multiple advisory committees. He is also a member of the prestigious Aldon Anderson, American Inn of Court.  

Over the years, Kent has published multiple articles on arbitration and mediation. He helped draft Utah Mediation Best Practice Guide. Additionally, Kent has given numerous presentations on dispute resolution.    

And Kent doesn’t stop there. His behind-the-scenes efforts are exemplary. For decades, Kent has championed and supported the dispute resolution movement. If a volunteer is needed for a presentation, a subcommittee requests a new member, Utah Dispute Resolution asks for a matching donor, or UCCR solicits symposium sponsors, Kent always steps up.       

Kent Scott is a gentleman, an innovator, an educator, a mentor, a collaborator, and a friend to all. He is this year’s Peacekeeper Award recipient and deservedly so.
